WINTER BLOSSOMS.
Naturally the amaryllis bloomed while we were away in Portland for a few days. However the blossoms are hail and hardy and will remain for a good week or more. On the plus side, it looks as though another bud is coming up from the base. The flowers are a brilliant red that looks scarlet in some lighting and the inside of the petals look so much like velvet that I want to caress them to feel the lovely nap. Of course, I won't touch the bloom; it shall remain a feast for just my eyes. There is a wonderful feeling of satisfaction looking at those lovely flowers and seeing the piles of white snow through the window just behind them. Spring IS coming; it does every year!
